DOJ Investigates CardioNet, Inc. for False Claims Act Violations, Requests Records

CardioNet, Inc. announced on Tuesday that it is being investigated by the Department of Justice for possible violations of the federal False Claims Act.  CardioNet is alleged to have used inappropriate diagnosis codes when submitting claims for payment to Medicare for its real-time, outpatient cardiac monitoring services.

CardioNet said it received a Civil Investigative Demand from the DOJ requesting documents for the period of January 1, 2007 to August 25, 2011, the date the CID was issued.  CardioNet had no further information on the status of the investigation or potential future steps.
