After announcing an $84 million settlement with the state of Texas earlier this week, Actavis has agreed to pay an additional $118.6 million to settle False Claims Act cases with the federal government, New York, Florida, South Carolina, and Iowa. The suit alleged that Actavis reported falsely inflated prices for its pharmaceutical drugs in order to increase the amount paid by Medicaid and other health insurance companies. The Florida, Texas, and federal suits were brought by whistleblower Ven-A-Care of the Florida Keys Inc., a company that has brought similar cases against multiple pharmaceutical manufacturers. Ven-A-Care has recovered nearly $3 billion on behalf of the federal and several state governments through over 20 similar settlements since 2000.
