In an undercover story for ABC News, a Medicare patient in good health left the doctor’s office diagnosed as homebound and suffering from Type 2 diabetes, two internal infections, incontinence, and severe shortness of breath. The doctor never tested for diabetes, though, and the patient specifically told the doctor that she did not suffer from incontinence or shortness of breath.
According to the report, McAllen, Texas, where the doctor was located, is a hotspot for fraud, with several of Medicare’s top billing physicians located there and a number of cases brought against McAllen doctors and health care agencies in recent years.
