Lucent Settles Iraq-Related Fraud Suit for $4.2 Million

Lucent Technologies World Services Inc. has agreed to pay $4.2 million to resolve allegations that it misled the U.S. government in the course of contracting for the creation of a 911-like emergency response system in Iraq. The suit, brought by a whistleblower under the qui tam provisions of the False Claims Act, alleged that Lucent falsely claimed to have successfully tested the system prior to U.S. authorities’ handing it over to the Iraqi government. The whistleblower, a former contract manager for Lucent, will receive $758,000.
