Fairfax Nursing Center, a skilled nursing facility in northern Virginia, has agreed to pay $700,000 to resolve allegations that it billed Medicare for medically unnecessary rehabilitation therapy. The government alleged that FNC billed government insurance for procedures that were excessive, duplicative, performed without clear goals or direction, or performed primarily because of their higher reimbursement rates. The case began as a qui tam suit brought by two former FNC therapists and one former contract therapist. The three whistleblowers will share $122,500 from the settlement.
