ABA Adopts Standards for Corporate Monitors

In August 2015, the American Bar Association House of Delegates approved the ABA Standards for Criminal Justice: Monitors, a set of best-practice standards for those providing oversight services to organizations, including external compliance officers or Independent Private Sector Inspectors General (IPSIGs).  The standards address such things as how a monitor is selected, the scope of a monitor’s duties, ethical considerations facing a monitor, how a monitor is compensated, how disputes are resolved, and oversight of the monitor.  Getnick & Getnick partner Judge Margaret J. Finerty participated in the ABA’s Task Force on Corporate Monitors Standards, the group responsible for developing the standards that are now official ABA policy.
