“Courageous” Whistleblower Receives $575,000 for Reporting Tax Fraud in New York

New York State Attorney General Barbara Underwood announced the criminal convictions of Spa Castle Inc. (“Spa Castle”) and its corporate officer, Daniel Chon, who both pleaded guilty to felony tax fraud charges and agreed to pay New York $2.5 million in restitution and damages.

The Attorney General went out of her way to thank the “courageous step” of the whistleblower in the action, who reported the tax fraud pursuant to the New York False Claims Act, and who accordingly received an award of $575,000.
