Gunnison Energy Corporation (GEC), SG Interests I Ltd. and SG Interests VII Ltd (SGI) have agreed to pay $550,000 to resolve antitrust and False Claims Act allegations that they arranged to not compete against one another in bidding for natural gas rights leases issued by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). The companies allegedly agreed that GEC would not bid and that SGI would assign GEC an interest in the leases. As a result, the government alleged that BLM received substantially less than it otherwise would have. The whistleblower’s False Claims Act case alleged that the winning bidders falsely certified that their bid was not the product of collusion with another bidder.
