TriWest Pays $10 Million for Fraud, Contract Up for Renewal

TriWest Healthcare Alliance, a Pentagon healthcare contractor, paid $10 million as a result of a whistleblower suit alleging that the company failed to pass on its savings to the federal government.  According to the complaint, TriWest negotiated lower rates from providers and pocketed the difference.  Additionally, TriWest allegedly processed a significant number of claims without determining whether those claims were valid or whether beneficiaries were eligible for coverage, in order to quickly process the claims and avoid penalty fees for delays.  The healthcare company is in the process of rebidding for a renewal of its contract.
