LHC Group Inc. agreed to pay $65 million to settle False Claims Act allegations against it. According to the complaint, LHC allegedly billed federal healthcare programs for medically unnecessary services, including home health visits for patients who were not home-bound. The suit was initiated by a whistleblower, Judy Master, who worked for a consulting firm LHC had previously hired. Ms. Master will receive $12 million from the settlement for bringing LHC’s alleged fraud to the government’s attention.
LHC will also submit to regular audits and monitoring as a result of the compliance program it agreed to as a part of the settlement.
