Ken Cuccinelli, Attorney General of Virginia, has almost doubled the size of the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit to nearly 80 employees. The Medicaid Fraud Control Unit handles Medicaid fraud and elder abuse cases. Over the last 30 years, the unit has recovered almost $800 million, collecting more than $15 million last year.
Cuccinelli has also ramped up the Unit’s education efforts, encouraging seniors to identify and report fraud. His office predicts that only one in five cases of abuse and neglect are reported.
