Ohio-based CareSource, CareSource Management Group Co., and CareSource USA Holding Co. will pay $26 million to resolve false claims allegations. The settlement resolves a whistleblower action initiated by two former CareSource employees, Laura Rupert and Robin Herzog, who will receive $3.1 million of the federal portion of the settlement.
CareSource, which provides managed care benefits to Medicaid beneficiaries in Ohio, Indiana and Michigan, allegedly failed to provide required screening, assessment, and case management for adults and children with special health care needs. As a result, the company, according to the Justice Department, received millions of dollars in Medicaid Funds that they were not entitled to, while falsifying data submitted to the state of Ohio to continue to receive these funds.
