Doctor Abdul Naushad, his wife Wajiha Naushad, and their pain-management clinics, Advanced Pain Centers (“APC”), will pay $820,000 to settle allegations of filing false medical claims to Medicare, Missouri Medicaid and TRICARE. The settlement also resolves claims against Naushad’s billing company, Ultimate Practice Solutions, and its owner Azeem Meo.
Allegedly, the defendants submitted false claims for one-on-one spinal decompression physical therapy services. According to the U.S. attorney’s office, APC offered no such services. Furthermore, the claims were filed to obtain payment for a “DRX-9000″machine that is not covered for reimbursement under the health plans.
The civil settlement dismisses a complaint filed by whistleblowers Annetta Schwader and Amanda Richards, both of whom were former APC employees. However, the two will share $131,200 from the settlement.
