Construction
Since 1989, Getnick & Getnick LLP has been providing anti-fraud services to the New York City construction industry. For example, the private developer of a $26 million hotel construction project retained the firm following the murder of the project’s construction manager in its pre-construction phase. We uncovered and documented bid-rigging and commercial bribery activity leading to the compliance monitoring of sub-contracted work in progress, laying the groundwork for a prosecution by the New York County District Attorney’s Office for falsifying business records and tampering with evidence.
The New York City School Construction Authority (SCA) Office of Inspector General has retained Getnick & Getnick LLP to conduct litigation against contractors engaged in fraudulent activity against the SCA. This included a parallel civil RICO lawsuit against an asbestos abatement company alleged to have defrauded the SCA, resulting in a two million dollar consent judgment. See “On-the-Beam Fight Versus Corruption,” New York Daily News, October 29, 1992.
The firm’s representation of private clients in the construction industry includes compliance counseling and has been complemented by construction monitoring engagements conducted on behalf of New York City agencies.
