The publication “Beckers Hospital Review” listed fifteen False Claims Act settlements over $1.5 million that have been announced since February 2018 involving hospitals. The cases involved a variety of fraudulent conduct, including: false billing, kickbacks, improper payments, and the improper retention of overpayments. The largest one of these cases resulted in a $30 million recovery.
Under the False Claims Act whistleblowers who report fraudulent conduct by hospitals that result in taxpayer losses may be eligible for a portion of the amounts recovered by the government.
