Asbestos Abatement

In February 1996 Getnick & Getnick LLP was retained for a four-year term as an Investigative Audit Firm (“IAF”) to monitor the activities of an asbestos abatement firm. The firm was suspended from contracting with the New York City School Construction Authority (“SCA”) after it apparently submitted false invoices to the SCA, violated the prevailing wage law and stole property from City schools.

Getnick & Getnick LLP designed a code of ethics, undertook a financial audit and investigation, acted as an informal mediator to facilitate resolution of multiple lawsuits by workers against the company for non-payment of prevailing wages, and acted as liaison with the company’s customers, including the SCA, in an effort to assist in organizing records required to expedite payment of receivables.
